UTC is a coordinated worldwide time information. local time is crap. consider daylight savings which will cause overlapping syslog entries at the same time. if someone says that UTC is "wrong" as mentioned here before, he surelly doesnt know the reason why utc is used. try to insert syslog into a database using local time. have fun with results on daylight saving days
